Dave Gejdos

Dave Gejdos started creating art early at the age of 5, joining his father as he did his art, learning perspective, mixing paints and sketching. In grade school he discovered sculpting with clay but continued sketching anything and everything. As a teenager he became fascinated with falconry and began raising his own falcons which he then transformed into sculptures.

This experience led him to create sculptures of all kinds including birds, wildlife and the human form. Dave's commissioned sculptures at the Royal Sask Museum, 'Human Factor Exhibit' (a permanent display for 20 yrs.), gave him the freedom to experiment with a wide variety of mediums.

Working for Regina Visual Display in the 80's gave him the freedom to do experiment with a wide variety of themes. Dave has created an 8-foot cowboy boot, oversized Charles Dickens Carollers, dinosaurs, and super-hero's which display great diversity as a sculptural artist.

Gejdos' art career took off when he entered numerous art competitions in Canada and the USA. He has received many awards including blue ribbon wins from Calgary, Ocean City, Maryland (Ward World Championships), New Orleans and Winnipeg. Dave has also been a judge in wildlife art shows in Calgary, New Orleans, Minneapolis, Winnipeg, and Saskatoon. He has facilitated painting and sculpting workshops across western Canada.

Dave is a retired Firefighter and has an art studio on his acreage just outside of Regina, Saskatchewan. His long-term goal of creating bronze sculptures has finally come to fruition with the help of the Pense foundry.

Artist's Statement

Living my entire adult life in a rural setting has inspired me to create wildlife art. I spend most of my time outdoors surrounded by animal life and I am always amazed by what I see. An animal’s ability to not only survive but thrive provides me with endless possibilities and inspiration to bring life through sculpture.
